The London Gold Fix Rate is the benchmark price for gold, as determined by the members of the London Gold Pool. The five pool members meet twice a day (by telephone) to agree a price for settling gold contracts between members of the London bullion market.
There are two fixes each day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Fixing has taken place since 1919, although between 1939 and 1954 no fixing took place due to the Second World War and then government restrictions on Gold dealing after the war.
The London Gold Fix is set in three currencies - Sterling (GBP), US Dollars (USD) and Euros. The USD London Gold Fix is used as an international benchmark for gold pricing. Equivalent fixing also takes place for other precious metals such as Silver, Platinum and Palladium
